L 25-29 cm, WS 40-45 cm.
Small and dark grebe. Its chestnut cheeks and throat and white patch at base of bill are distinctive in breeding season

 

Habitat:It is more frequent in rivers than other grebes. It breeds on well vegetated lakes, river and ponds. Little Grebes also occur in estuaries in winter. It nests in water on heap of vegetation and feeds on insects, small fish and mollusks.
