L 23-25 cm, WS 70-75 cm.
It has black cap and white cheeks. Its underparts are grey, underwing and tail coverts are white. It resembles Black Tern in behaviour, but faster in flight.

Habitat:It breeds colonially in freshwater lakes and marshes and feeds on insects, frogs, tadpoles and small fish.
