L 42-49 cm, WS 72-82 cm.
In winter females have grey body with dark brown breast and head. In breeding season they are becoming more uniformly brown. Whole head and neck is chestnut with grey upper parts. It has brown in front and grey-brown behind. Bill is blue-grey, black at tip and base.

Habitat:Pochards breed on well-vegetated lakes and feed mainly on seeds and plant, also small aquatic animals.
