L 16-17 cm, WS 24-26 cm.
Its back flashes pale turquoise-blue and plumage is brilliant, blue-green above and chestnut below. Flight is fast. Its bill is black and legs and feet are red.

Habitat: Kingfishers occur at lowland freshwater, estuaries, sea coast. It nests in holes in river banks and dives for fish either from perch or when hovering. Feeds on fish, aquatic insects and other small animals.
