Xanthium strumarium subsp. strumarium (ROUGH COCKLEBUR) (Büyük pıtırak) (Gewöhnliche SpitzkJette) Compositae (Afteraceae) Plant annual. Stem stiffly branched, unarmed, up to 80 cm. Leaves alternate, long-petiolate, cuneate-ovate, obscurely 3- or 5-lobed, up to 12 cm, green both surface. Flowering head greenish; male and female flowers seperate but borne on the same plant, up to 6 mm, in lateral clusters, occasionally terminal, the globular male borne above the egg-shaped female. Fruiting involucre up to 30 x 20 mm.(inc. spines). Leaves medicinal. Fl. july-October: Waste places, s.l. A ruderal polyploid species thought to be American orgin but now having almost world-wide distribution. |
