Climbing or scrambling shrubs up to 25 m. Stem woody, often with tendril. Leaves alternate,deciduous, palmately 5-7 lobed, long stalked. Flowers hermaphrodite. Fruit a berry. Sweet fruits which are green, yellow, red or blackish purple, up to 22 mm; seeds usually fewer or absent, with a longer beak. The fruits are used for wine, raki and dessert and the leaves for wrapping Dolma. Fl. May-June.
