Annual herbs. Stem prostrate, much-branched, up to 80 cm. Young shoots and leaves silvery pilose. Leaves
alternate, paripinnate; leaflets ovate or elliptic, up to 8 x 3 mm. Sepals 5 mm, ovate, silky-hairy. Petals free, yellow. Fruit star-shaped, spiny, hard and woody. Fl. June-September. Open or sandy places, fallow fields.
