Tuberous perennial herbs. Stem climbing, rarely branched, up to 4 m. Leaves alternate, ovate-cordate or broadly ovate-cordate. Inflorescence in axillary racemes. Flowers greenish-yellow, up to 6 mm. Fruit a subglobose berry, green, ripening red. Young shoots edible. Fl. April-June. Limestone gullies, shady riversides, climbing on Rhamnus In Abies-Fagus forest, in open Querns aegilops scrub.
