Annual herbs. Stems simple or branched, up to 25 cm, topped by a usually violet or pink coma or absent. Leaves opposite, oblong-ovate, up to 5 x 2,5. Verticillasters 2-6-flowered. Calyx tubular, up to 10 mm. Petals united, lilac-purple to white, up to 15 mm. Fruit dry nutlets. Fl. March-July. Rocky slopes, macchie with Cistus, phrygana sand-dunes, fields and waste ground, s.l.

Most of the Mediterranean area, Crimea, Cyprus, Caucasia, Iran (except C), N. Iran.
