Rubus sanctus (BRAMBLE, BLACKBERRRY) (Böğürtlen, Ahududu) (Brombeertrauch) Rosaceae Semi-evergreen shrubs with arching or scrambling stem, armed with stout, straight or recurved pricles. Leaves alternate, pedate with 5 leaflets, or ternate, discolorous, glabrous to stellate-pubescent above, whitetomentose below; leaflets obovate-orbicular. Panicles long and usually lax, showy. Sepals ovate-oblong. Petals free, pink, up to 13 mm. Drupelets black, numerous, small, scarcely juicy, Fruit edible, leaves and roots medicinal. Fl. June August. Open scrub, rocky slopes, banks of river, fixed dunes, coastal plains, waste places, s.l. W &. C. Europe, Mediterranean area, Crimea, S. W. Asia, eastwards to Western Himalayas. |
