Deciduous, shrub, up to 5 m, with climbing branches, pricles rather stout. Leaves alternate, imparipinnate; leaflets ovate to broadly ovate, up to 4,5 x 2,7 cm. Flowers in a dense corymb, usually 10-20 together. Outer sepals pinnatifid. Petals free, white, often faintly pink at base. Hypanthia ovoid, usually smooth, red. Fl. May-June. Scrub and hedges in moist places.
