Annual herbs. Stem hispid, usually branched from base up to 50 cm. Basal leaves lyrate, petiolate. Cauline leaves petiolate; uppermost sessile, entire. Inflorescence greatly elongating in fruit. Petals free, white, pale rose, lilac or yellow, usually with dark veins, up to 17x8 mm. Fruiting pedicels erect-ascending, up to 30 mm. Siliqua up to 65 x 7 mm. Roots and leaves edible. Fl. March-May. Fallow fields, cultivated ground, sandy fields.

Throughout Europe, N. Africa, S.W.&.C. Asia.
