Perennial herbs. Stem erect or ascending, up to 40 cm. Leaves opposite, ovate to oblong, sometimes pinnatisect. Inflorescence capitate or shortly spicate. Calyx tubular-campanulate. Petals united, deep violet or lavender-blue, up to 15 mm. Fruit dry nutlets. Fl. May-September. Open fields, woods, roadsides and moist bank, etc., often by streams, s.l.
Temperate Eurasia and N. Africa.
