Annual herbs. Stem prostrate or procumbent and branched, up to 45 cm. Leaves alternate, imparipinnate; with 5-9 pairs of linear-oblong leaflets. Inflorescence 2-5-flowered. Sepals 4-6 mm. Petals free at the base, pink or pinkish-mauve, up to 6 mm. Fruit semi-orbicular in outline and with numerous spiny hooked teeth on the crest. Fl. April-May. Rocky slopes, fallow fields, disturbed steppe, roadsides, often near the sea.
