Bulbous perennial herbs. Bulb up to 60 x 50 mm. Leaves green or blue-green, usually glaucous, strap-shaped, up to 25 mm wide. Flowers in umbels of 10, fragrant. Spathe 20-65 mm, scarious. Pedicels unequal. Hypanthial tube slender, cylindrical, narrowly infundibular at top. Perianth segments white, ovate to obovate, up to 17 mm long. Corona yellow to orange. Fruit an ellipsoidal to subglobose capsule. Ornamental. Fl. November-May. Pinus pinea forest, rocky places nr coast, limestone scree, Queercus macchie, lakesides and swamps, nr s.l.
