Evergreen aromatic shrubs. Stem erect, much-branched, up to 5 m. Leaves opposite, ovate-lanceolate, up to 5 cm, coriaceous. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; petals white, orbicular, up to 15 mm long. Fruit a subglobose to broadly ellipsoid berry, bluish-black on ripe. Fruit edible and leaves culinary. Potential onramental. Fl. June-September. Rocky slopes, Pinus brutia forest, macchie, sand dunes, s.l.
