Acaulescent perennial herbs. Often branched rootstock. Leaves petiolate, entire, in a basal rosette, up to 40 x 18 cm. Flowers axillary, many centre of rosette, pedicellate. Calyx campanulate, up to 2 cm. Corolla campanulate, pale bluish violet, up to 3 cm. Fruit a berry, yellow to orange, up to 3 cm diameter. Poisionous. Roots medicinal. Fl. January-April. Rocky slopes, ruins, under Pinus brutia, olieve trees, edges of fields, s.l.

Mediterranean area.
