Aquatic or subaquatic perennial herbs. Stem prostrate or ascending,
up to 50 cm. Leaves opposite, narrowly lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, up to 9 cm. Flowers solitary in leaf axils. Sepals free. Petals lemon-yellow with a darker spot at the base, up to 18 mm. Fruit a cylindrical capsule, up to 30 x 4 mm; seeds uniseriate in each loculus. Potential ornamental. Fl. August-September. Wet places by lakes and rivers.
