Annual herbs. Stem ridged, winged. Leaves alternate; lower leaves
spathulate, median leaves oblong, 1-3 cm. Cyme dichotomous, widely spreading, bearing very short pedicellate flowers. Sepals linear, up to 13 mm. Petals free, yellow, up to 20 mm. Fruit indehiscent capsule, 5 mm. Fl. April-July. Rocky, often calcerous hillsides, fallow fields and waste ground.
