Showy, rhizomatous perennial herbs. Stems robust, simple or branched, up to 150 cm. Leaves ensiform, sword-shaped, up to 3 cm broad, equalling inflorescence; upper cauline leaves bract-like. Each branch bearing 1 -3 flowers. Flowers yellow with a zone of brownish marks on the broad oval blades of the falls, up to 10 cm; standarts much shorter than the falls, narrow oblong. Fruit a cylindrical capsule. Potential ornamental. Fl. April-May. Streawsides, ponds, ditches and fresh-water marshes, s.l.
