Perennial herbs. Stem erect or ascending, up to 150 cm. Leaves alternate, imparipinnate; leaflets elliptic to lanceolate. Inflorescence a many -flowered, pedunculate, axillary raceme. Calyx campanulate. Petal free at the base, white to purple, up to 15 mm. fruit a narrowly cylindrical legume, constricted between the seeds. Legume terete, up to 50 mm, beaked, 2-10-seeded. Fl. June-September. Scrub, woodland wet places, etc., S.I.
