Plant annual. Stem erect, rigid, ascending or procumbent, branched from base or above, whitish-grey pubescent. Leaves alternate, oblong-obovate, spathulate, up to 15 mm. Capitula cylindrical-pyramidal, in clusters of overtopped by subtending leaves. Phyllaries few, minute. Flowers yellowish. Achenes oblong-cylindrical to oblong-obovoid. Pappus of 12-16 hairy. Fl. April-June. Stony hillsides, open places in scrub, fallow fields, dry pastures, roadsides, sandy places, nr.s.l.

S. Europe, southern part of W. Europe, N. W. Africa, S. W. Asia, Caucasia, Transcaspia, Turkestan.
