Fleshy annual herbs. Stem prostrate, 4- branched from base, up to 40 cm, often purplish. Leaves opposite, falcate oblong, up to 15 x 10 mm. Flowers greenish, with semicircular, lateral or clustered, not borne in umbels. Fruit a schizocarpic. Seed ovoid- pyriform. Fl. June-September. Sandy seashores, shingle beaches, and shores of inland salt lakes, etc., s.l.


Coast of W. Europe, Mediterranean, Black and S. Caspian seas; N. Persian Gulf.
