Annual or biennial herbs. Stem erect, softly setiform hairy, up to 65 cm. Basal leaves broadly ovate to narrowly elliptic; cauline much smaller, alternate, linear-lanceolate. Inflorescence much-branched. Calyx up to 9 mm in flower. Corolla broadly infundibular to somewhat trumpet-shaped, bright or dark blue to purple, up to 32 mm. Nutlets ovoid-bipyramidal. Potential ornamental. Fl. March-September. Fields, streambanks, waste ground, ditches, grassland and rocky slopes, etc., s.l.

Native of W. Europe and Mediterranean area.
