Large tuberous perennial herbs, erect, up to 1.5 m, or more. Leaves long-petiolate, deep green, often with white streaks, deeply divided into 10-15, linear, linear to oblong segments; sheath purple-stopped. Spathe stout, up to 40 cm long; spadix deep maaron-black, shiny, erect and very stout. Inflorescence foul smelling. Fruit an orange-red berry. Potential ornamental. Fl. May-June. Field margins., ruins, disturbed habitats.
Eastern Mediterranean area.
