Fleshy parasitic perennial. Stem erect, orange or yellow, up to 8 cm. Leaves scale-like, oblong-ovate or elliptic, without chlorophyll. Flowers yellow, up to 12 mm, borne in clusters surrounded by the scales. Fruit a many-seeded berry. Parasitic on Cistus creticus, C. salviifolius and (in Crete) C. parviflorus. Fl. March-June. Macchie, phrygana, Pinus brutia forest and mixed forest, s.l.
