Parasitic annual herbs. Stem climbing or trailing, yellow, much-branched.
Appearing leafless, leaves reduced to minute scales, without chlorophyll. Inflorescence globose, usually many-flowered and dense. Flowers up to 3 mm, white, cream, 5- merous. Calyx and corolla each united into a tube in lower part. Fruit a capsule, depressed-globose. Fl. June-October. On many herbaceous cultivated and weedy plants, usually in irriqated fields and gardens.

Native to N. America, but now almost cosmopolitan.
