Stiff perennial herbs, up to 100 cm. Basal leaves oblanceolate, short-stalked; cauline leaves lanceolate, clasping the stem. Capitula homogamous, ligulate, axillary or at the end of thickened peduncles. Involucre cylindrical; phyllaries 2-seriate. Flowers sky blue. Achenes glabrous, obovoid, truncate, bearing a pappus of 1 -2-rows of short blunt series. Leaves edible. Fl. June-September. Cultivated fields, meadows and waste places, s.l.
