Small tree or shrub up to 10 m. Stem with ascending branches. Leaves alternate, decidious, simple, rounded with a heart-shaped base and a rounded or notched apex, entire, up to 12 cm diameter, stalked. Flowers pea-shaped, borne in clusters directly on the branches and trunk. Calyx bell-shaped, c. 5 mm, pink. Petals free, bright pinkish-purple. Fruit a linear-oblong, laterally compressed legume. Flowers edible. Fl. April-May. Macchie and deciduous forest, s.l.
