Deciduous, climbers shrubs. Stem becoming thick and woody with
age, clinging by short stem roots, up to 12 m. Leaves opposite, pinnate; leaflets, ovate, downy beneath. Flowers cylindrical, trumpet-shaped but 2-lipped, scarlet and orange, up to 8 cm long, borne in terminal clusters. Fruit spindle-shaped, up to 12 cm. FI. August- October. Widely cultivated in parks and gardens.

Native of South-East Asia.
