Tall, trailing or scrambling plant. Stem woody, much-branched, sometimes up to 2 m. Cladodes in clusters of up to 30, 2-8 mm long, spine-tipped. Flowers usually 1 per fascicle; male flowers yellowish-greenish; famale flowers usually smaller than the male flowers. Fruit a black berry. Young shoots are eaten as salad. Fl. September-October. Pinus woods, macchie, disturbed ground, banks, roadsides, nr s.l.
