Vertical tuberous perennial herbs. Leaves arrowhead-shaped, elongate-hastate, up to 33 x 25 cm. Scape up to 45 cm. Spathe greenish outside, but dark purple in the lower half inside shading to greenish-yellow above, heavily marked with large purple blotches, up to 36 cm long; spadix dark purple. Flowers unisexual. Perianth absent. Fruit a red berry. Leaves edible. Fl. March-May. Open rocky limestone slopes and crevices, fields margins, roadsides, nr s.l.
