Perennial. Stem hairy, up to 30 cm. Rootstock tuberous. Basal leaves 2- ternate, the division narrow, toothed; stem leaves similar but short- stalked. Involucral leaves sessile. Tepals free, 5-8, scarlet, pink, rosea, blue, or white, 35-75 mm. Achenes densely villose. Potential ornamental. Fl. February-April. Scrub, slopes, meadows.
