Perennial aquatic herbs. Stem up to 130 cm. Leaves lanceolate to elliptic, up to 18 x 2,5 cm, in a basal rosette. Inflorescence erect, pyramidal panicle composed whorls, in small plants sometimes reduced to a racemose umbel. Sepal up to 3 mm. Petal pink, lilac or white, up to 6,5 cm. Fruit an elliptic achenes. Fl. April-September. Lake shores, ditches, pools. swamps, usually in shallow stagnant water, s.l.

Türkiye, Most of Europe (rare in N.), N. W. Africa, N. Africa, N. Iraq, N., N. W. &.S. Iran, Khorassan, Afghanistan.
