Robust, semi-woody perennial, monocarpic plants. Stem up to 7 m in flower. Leaves usually in basal rosettes, ensiform, fibrous-fleshy, spine-tipped, up to 200 x 25 cm. Inflorescence narrowly pyramidal. Flowers tubular, greenish-yellow, up to 90 mm long. Fruit a loculicidal capsule. Fl. July-August. Cultivated as an ornamental sometimes as a hedge plant, naturalized in the south.
Native of C. Mexico.
