Perennial with slender stolons and fibrous roots with globose tubers.
Scapes erect, 1 (-2)- capitulate. Leaves elliptic to oblanceolae, spathulate entire to pinnatifid. Capitula c. 30- flowered. Involucre cylindrical - campanulate; phyllaries pluriseriate. Flowers yellow. Achenes - fusiform, golden-brown. Pappus sessile, white, smooth to finely barbellate. Fl. April-June. Pinus and Liquidambar woodland, sand, roadbanks, nr.s.l.
